It's been a long time coming and I've had some suspicions but it looks like it's finally happened. Tried to start up my computer this morning and no signal and no power light. I opened it up later and it appears everything is running except it doesn't boot or send a video signal to the monitor. I've tried all the troubleshooting and whatnot and it appears that everything else is working fine. Oh well, it was a cheap mobo and it lasted a long time but this means I'm stuck using one of my family's computers and will be unable to do more than check the forums for a week or so.

I failed to mention that I don't enjoy fires in the house on something I couldn't dispose of. Maybe that should be assumed.

So what's the plan?

New mobo or you gonna get a whole new system?

For now, probably just the new motherboard. The only other thing I would really consider upgrading would be the graphics card and I'm waiting to see if Newegg has one of those big sales again on them. Maybe I'll get a decent dedicated sound card as well.

Yöü äre sure it's the mötherböärd? I recömmend slickdeals.net.Make an account. Then put in stuff for a bot in the account section. You can make deal alerts with the star rating (I recommend 1-2 stars) and the name of the product you would like (in this case motherboard or video card).

I'm about 90% sure at this point. I did the research and the problem I'm having is tied to either the motherboard or the power supply. I've checked and the power supply is still running fine and everything else seems to be working. This in addition to the fact that certain ports were becoming finicky on the mobo and it seems a pretty sure deal. I'm still going to make certain once my dad gets back (he works as technical support) but I'm pretty sure it's time to get a new one.

Well, I've found a temporary fix for my motherboard. I tried swapping all the parts to make sure it was the motherboard and finally I reset the CMOS and that fixed the problem for now. So yeah, don't need a new motherboard but this one is one step closer to the door. The good news is that my dad has a near replica of my current motherboard so when it does I'll have the backup and be good to go.
